Wyse missed Day One support again for SUSE Linux C50LE

In the past two years, Dan O’Farrell from Dell Wyse has publicly promised that Wyse would offer Day One support for the latest VMware solutions as soon as they become available, saying “Wyse is continuing our tradition of Day One support for VMware View with View 5.1, meaning our industry-leading Windows Embedded, Linux, and Wyse ThinOS thin clients and our zero client for VMware View, the Wyse P20, support these latest advancements from VMware as soon as they become available”.

Not once has he or his team delivered on this promise, nor publicly apologized for failing to meet this high expectation they imposed upon themselves.

In March 2013 VMware released v2.0 of the View Client for Linux. It took Wyse 91 days (and several customer support tickets from me) to eventually make the update/addon available for their C50LE thin client.

Generally speaking, I would consider a 90-day turnaround to be reasonable. My frustration is that Dan, the Sr. Director or Product Marketing at Dell Wyse, has consistently stated that Wyse devices will have the latest from VMware on Day One (see my previous posts “Where is Wyse’s support for VMware View 5.0 and 5.1?” and “Still waiting for Wyse ‘Day One’ support of VMware View 5“).

VMworld 2013 is a few months away. Historically, VMware provides an update to the VMware View (now VMware Horizon View) product at the conference or soon after. Maybe this time Wyse will release an updated client on time.
